Where IGNOU Is Genuinely Better
Two things, and both are real.
- The name. IGNOU is a central university. On a CV read by someone who has never heard of any private institute, that carries weight Treneywann does not have and will not have for years. If institutional brand is your single biggest concern, this is a sound reason to choose IGNOU.
- The price for the length. ₹10,800 for a 1-year, 28-credit university diploma is remarkable value in absolute terms. It is cheaper than our 6-month programme.
We are not going to pretend otherwise. If you have two years’ registered experience, hold midwifery or the INC substitute, can work from written material without live teaching, and are not in a hurry — IGNOU DNA is a very good option and you should take it. An institute that cannot say that about a genuinely strong competitor is not worth trusting on anything else either.
Where Treneywann Is Better
- You can start now. IGNOU requires two years’ working experience and RNRM registration. A nurse in year one, a nurse between jobs, a nurse returning after a break or a newly qualified nurse simply cannot enrol. Treneywann has no experience requirement.
- The midwifery barrier. Male nurses, and nurses who did not complete midwifery within GNM, need an additional INC-prescribed 6–9 month certificate before IGNOU will admit them — which turns a 1-year diploma into a two-year project. Treneywann has no such requirement.
- Time. 3 or 6 months against 1 year minimum. If a charge post is likely to open in your hospital this year, a one-year distance diploma finishes after the decision is made.
- Live teaching. This is the largest practical difference. IGNOU DNA is distance study; Treneywann runs live online classes with case discussion, plus optional weekend practicals at Vyttila, Kochi — taught by B.V. Doing Both
They are not mutually exclusive, and the combination is stronger than either alone: take Treneywann’s 3- or 6-month programme now for the immediate post and the live teaching, then enrol in IGNOU DNA for the university diploma once you have the two years’ experience. IGNOU allows up to three years to complete, which fits alongside a working roster comfortably.
Stated plainly: neither course is MSc Nursing or an Indian Nursing Council qualification. Neither changes your clinical registration, and no course guarantees an appointment.
