PMJAY Hospital Billing Process — Step by Step
Verify PMJAY-KASP beneficiary status — QR code on Ayushman card scanned at hospital PMJAY desk, or verified on NHA portal / KASP app using Aadhaar or ration card. Admin confirms eligibility, remaining annual cover and family unit.
For procedures above threshold or surgeries, hospital admin submits a pre-authorization request on the PMJAY portal with clinical documents and treatment plan. Authorization received (or rejected) within 1–4 hours for elective cases.
Patient receives treatment free of charge up to the annual limit. Hospital bills using defined PMJAY package rates (not rack rates). Admin maps treatment to PMJAY HBP (Health Benefit Package) codes — each procedure/surgery has a defined government rate.
On discharge, admin submits claim via PMJAY portal — attaching discharge summary, OT notes (for surgery), cost breakdown at package rates. Claim reviewed by NHA/SHA → reimbursed directly to hospital. Admin tracks claim status and follows up on rejection.
